UPDATE ON RESTRUCTURING OF THE UB LIBRARY
June 08, 2004
As you are aware, the University of Belize is currently engaged in transferring and consolidating programs to the Belmopan Campus to be effective August 1, 2004 . As a result, your library is also undergoing a physical transfer of books, equipment, and furniture within Belize City and to Belmopan.
To ensure a smooth transition of the above-mentioned transfers, the library regrets to inform you, the patrons, that we will be offering limited services for the summer session, 2004. The limited services are :
Photocopying
Loaning of books only to students enrolled in a summer course
Computer usage
Response to ready reference queries
*Note: Effective June 14, 2004 , materials and library services to support the students enrolled in summer courses at the Faculty of Education and Arts, and Faculty of Nursing, Allied Health and Social Work will be available at the Management and Social Science Library. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.
Also please be reminded that after much consultation and careful planning, the Library Subcommittee has made the following recommendations regarding quantity and location of libraries for the restructuring of the Library:
Belize City: There will be one library and one resource center.
Management and Social Science Library will remain as is, but will now house materials to support the programs for Faculties of Education and Arts, Nursing, Allied Health and Social Work.
Science and Technology Library will be converted to a specialized resource center, staffed by one person. This resource center will be merged with a computer lab and will offer library services.
Belmopan: The Central Campus library will be expanded. There will now be a reference department, circulation department and an improved computer lab.
Central Farm: Will continue to operate, however, materials to support the NRM program will be transferred to Belmopan
Toledo Center Library: Will continue to operate.
To recap, Belize City will house one library and one resource center, Belmopan Library will expand, Central Farm and Toledo library will continue to operate. Therefore, there will be Library services offered at five of UB's campuses.
